1. I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint , I'm a tease ...I'm a goddess on her knees. And you wouldn't want it any other way ... (hey that's 7 or 8 things, bonus points!) ((wha'aaaa? catchy and ENTIRELY applicable song lyrics don't count?! merde!)) ((( well it is all still 110% true))).
2. alrighty then. this is hard because my approach to blogging has been to spill my guts regularly. what other randomness is left? hmmmm. okay well some of my readers might know this one ... I won the Douglas County 4th grade spelling bee and my name is inscribed somewhere in the halls of my 4th grade alma mater. Wish I could remember the word that sealed it up ... but no. which leads me to ...
3. I've reached the point in life where memory fails. Actually I reached it quite a while ago, so early that I looked up Alzheimer's symptoms and found out one of the tests they give is to count backwards by 7, starting at 100 ... And I fervently do this just to feel better about myself. I'm on the hunt for brain and memory exercises ... anyone wanna help me out? I imagine I spend at least an hour of each day looking for stuff. Daily, my glasses which I started wearing about 2 years ago and are the bane of my existence. Currently, I am at a loss as to where I've put my camera. I turned the house upside down yesterday but no luck. Today another search will ensue.
4. I'm short. I'm 5'1" on a good day (stocking feet). I moved to France because I prefer being called petite.
5. I love to dance AND I have rhythm. I start each morning by cranking up the iPod. My dance music tastes lean toward Aretha and Stevie and Beyoncé and Shakira, but I also can't get enough Latin music (salsa, samba) ... anything that gets my hips swiveling works for me. Structured dance is something I'm working on (I don't do well with structure! lol)...I've found some salsa dance lessons in Perigueux that I'm dying to try. But they are in French (duh, of course) so I'm a bit intimidated. But my bet is I'll be doing them.
6. My toenails are never sans couleur.
7. Dang ... not sure if I have to add another to compensate for number 1... let's see, let's see...ermmmmm... once when I lived in New York, I was working as a temp and I lied and said I knew shorthand so they sent me on this job to this high rise building to fill in for some muckity-muck's secretary for a day and he called me in to his office. I went in with my pad thinking "I SO have this" ... because I was totally cute and young and ridiculous and he was an old fart with drooling lascivious eyes. Plus I figured how hard could it be, I'll just write fast and leave out the vowels and fake it.... so I batted my eyes at the reptile across desk and smiled and nodded and threw in a few little 'ohs and ahs' ... and twitched my way back to the ... gasp ... Selectric Typewriter and proceeded to type up the biggest pile of dooky you've ever read.
I waited till the end of the day to go back to his office and place it in his inbox. He kept trying to strike up a conversation with some of the worst banalities ... finally I just kind of wrinkled my nose and told him I had to get home to my baby and pranced on out.
What I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall when he tried to deciper that letter. chuckle.

God I hate rules:
1. Link to the person who tagged you. (See above)
2. Post the rules on your blog. (control freaks)
3. Write six random things about yourself. (I'm an open book already)
4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them. (Five is all I got. again, apologies)
5. Let each person know they’ve been tagged and leave a comment on their blog. (umm, well rules are made to be broken)
6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up. (like he reads my comments ... )

awards...
okay, I'm going to take a risk here and talk about blog awards. A blogger I recently started reading put up a post questioning what the awarding and meme'g and tagging thing was all about. Being a fairly new blogger, they had questions ...
got me to thinking more about it ... I always have mixed reactions to awards ... on the one hand, it is of course nice to have recognition... when an award is bestowed and there is feedback given about one's writing efforts ... it is gratifying. It is also nice to write about others I admire and/or enjoy. And memes can be fun because you learn something new about the blogger.
then come the rules. I understand that providing some guidelines might help the 'love' get passed along. but they seem to get a little strident at times. somewhat demanding.
Also, since the purpose of the rules is to mandate who and how to pass the thing along ... well, there are only so many blogs one can read and gain familiarity with. So inevitably the same circle of bloggers within a 'following' tend to get hit over and over again. And they seem to come in waves because of this phenomenon as well.
I admit I have found it stressful to receive an award. Kind of damned if I do and damned if I don't. How am I going to come up with new recipients so I don't keep burdening the same folks? How will I find time to read some newer blogs more thoroughly so I know whether or not to tag them? If I don't respond, will I insult the blogger who gave it? How do I react if I am ignored?
what would Jenny do? (since she is my blogging idol ... ) well I kind of know. She always seems to find time to come and comment on my peasant blog, if she receives recognition. But I've never seen her actually respond on her site. But then she's famous. What if I did the research and found out her history includes a series of awards that led to her success? hmmmmm.
what say you?

incompetent meme'r am I.
So I was just reading Notre Vie Juteuse's response to my tag and observed that I left off an entire question from my own response! The gracious Miss She Weasel was obviously too polite to tell me.
sigh.
6. Snacks I like.
Tortilla chips and salsa.
Figs and foie gras.
Fig bread with goat cheese and honey.
Sex. (YES, sex IS a snack in my world. bwhahahaa!)
Unfortunately, all my snacks are of the caloric variety lately.
sigh.

moimoi.
I've been tagged. *a meme*I feel so 18 again. La Belette Rouge is my first. my one and only. tagger, that is. us women of a certain age don't have many firsts left in life, so merci beacoup my love!
here goes. might take a while, memory's foggy.
1. Where was I ten years ago?
Hmmmm......1998. I was in Oakland (OakTOWN baybee). I had been living in the first house I ever bought on my own ... for about 2 years. I was gazing less and less at the open beams and imagining how easy it would be to take a rope and disappear from them. It was less than a year since I took my very first trip to France (winter of 1997). My beautiful daughter turned 18 that year. I loved a man who has never been able to love me like I need to be loved. I worked as part of the corporate machine. Upwardly mobile, they'd say. My dreams of houses in France commenced. I planted lavender and roses and chamomile, puttering, nesting and auction bidding.
2. What is on my to-do list today?
well, it is midnightish. ummm. yesterday's list included french class and donning a silly see-through coverall, and painting the walls of my new(ish) chambre with Jean-Yves. I tried to come up with an answer to his question ... "Do I believe every person has one love in their life? a soulmate so to speak..."?
Tomorrow, I breakfast with my friend Christie before she departs for Paris. I plan to spend several hours studying...so I don't feel guilty on Sunday when I attend the crawfish festival with Marjo.
yep. my lists are shorter these days. and still remain kind of unfinished.
3. What if I was a billionaire?
hmmmmm. judging from other's responses to this question, this amount of money makes one untouchable. it buys kidnappings and other crimes. hmmm again. who would I kidnap? back to ya on that one.
I would retire my debts, our store's debts, my son and daughter's debts. I'd buy a flat in Paris and maybe Uruguay. I'd start a non-profit fund similar to Kiva. I'd fly many friends here and then hug them and serve them wine.
How funny, I can't really think of anything outlandish I'd need to do right away. Maybe I'd tuck away some dinero for future "work" so to speak. My life would be comprised of lots of travelling.
4. Five places I've lived.
Oakland, CA. holla to my homies! I love Oakland, I raised 2 fanfuckingtastic people in Oakland, murder capital of the west (blah) and I wouldn't trade anything for it.
Berkeley, CA. berserkely is cool, love the bungalows and wild gardens and freakazoid birkenstock wearers and bleeding heart liberals and intelligentsia.
New York, NY. i wish i'd of lived there when I actually had some money and could live where I wanted. but it was an experience and because of it, when I return, I know all the cool places to be.
Portland, OR. green. art. music. food. style. island in a sea of riffraff rednecks.
Brantome, France. historique. magnifique. trop uniquement.
5. Bad habits.
Not removing makeup at night. Quelle horreur!
Overanalyzing, worrying and obsessing. about fricking everything.
Listening to the voices in my head.
TAGGEES:
1. Utah Savage
2. Amy Rigby (you can do it when you return)
3. randall graves LM
4. notre vie juteuse
5. artful kisser
well. that is as self-revealing as I care to be. toodles.
