message in a bottle.

i'm going to toss this out on the big blog sea and ... see what comes back to me.

a little confession. as I started getting in to my blog and reading other blogs and seeing other bloggers find ways to get their writing published ... I began to dream a little dream that maybe someone out there might read about my adventure ... someone who knew more about these writerly things than I ... someone that might see a seed of something...I don't know ... adventurous, fun, entertaining ... maybe even a little inspiring. And might know someone who knew someone who worked somewhere and could give me some advice on how one might get their story ... slighty, semi-autobiographical whimsy ... in front of the right person. perhaps ? maybe? parce-que? pourquoi-pas?

I'm in a place right now where I could use a buoy. a marker in that big old sea to swim towards. maybe a lifejacket too, if it is going to be a long haul.

but I'd really like some insight as to how one might go about this rather daunting prospect.

that of being heard ... more widely.

I don't have the foggiest, so I'll have to see what comes back to you, with you, too.

As I've read more than my fair share, more than could possibly be healthy, of stories in the same vein, I can say that your story is particularly compelling and inspiring due to a combination of your own childhood background, the educational choice that you made for your children (which was a kind of surrogacy for your own dreams on hold until they were safely launched), and the very unusual and impressive fact that you planned and are executing the realization of your French dream alone--as in, you did not go to France on the arm of a Frenchman and land in a ready-made French life. You are creating one out of desire, blood, sweat, and tears.

I'd read that story in a minute! Hell, I'd even buy the book in trade paper format and hand it out as gifts to francophiles!

You are a marvel of sheer, unmitigated, focused intention.

So... there!

Oh, and I admire you and your accomplishments greatly. In fact, they have inform, and have inspired, my own hopes and dare-to-dreams for my own impending life in central France.

I offer no practical assistance, but I will buy the book when it comes out.

NJNRR,

I think it depends on what you want to do. Do you want to have more readership participation on your blog or do you want to write a book of your personal life and promote it?

You seem to have a faithful group of readers here. There are not very many comments, but your friends keep coming. I visit blogs all the time, and many of them have zero comment on nearly all their articles, so it means you are doing ok.

I don't have a blog so I don't have to worry about this, LOL.

I am glad that you find life in France ok, in spite of our fascist president.

Greetings from Paris,
Valrie

I wish I had the answer. But I can make a suggestion.

Write a treatment of what kind of book you'd like to write (if that is what you are alluding to). Ask La Belette Rouge for advice (since she did one recently which was autobiographical. Technically it went belly up (more's the pity), but she probably learned LOADS).

La Framericaine has a point. You came here out of desire and bloody hell, you OPENED A BUSINESS (an American no less! (ie, not one of the Brits who can just buy up property in southern France because they're European and it's cheaper here). Something many French people wouldn't even dare to do. You've got tons of information and stories in that noggin of yours and you have a way with words.

Yes. You can do this too.

Yes a synopsis and lots of word of mouth. Your blog is a great place to promote a book and it already reads like chapters from a book. I had no idea you were even writing a book. See you need to be more outspoken about it!
